Oh funny. After about 15 years, I finally got hold on a working record player and was able to listen to all the old records again that I used to adore when I was young. And I just realized how much I love the old Killing Joke : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e5iRp9PJPU
I mean, it's like a completely different band....

You're ok Zimmy ? Ok ? In what way Speaking about goth (or more like doom), I prefer the old classics My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost etc.
I used to listen to both bands quite a lot. Thanks for linking an old Paradise Lost track- I refuse to acknowledge anything they made after "Icon" (like Metallica ceased to exist after the Black Album in my world) Back in those days, I liked Amorphis and Entombed best as far as Doom/Death was concerned.
I just think that the whole goth/death/industrial whatsoever genre is something that you inevitably grow out of when you get older. As an ex-goth in my mid-thirties now, each time I see some new band where some 19year old teeny screams about being a bad mofo or the lord of darkness, my reaction is this. Please don't feed me. |

Yeah, all those genres have their groups who are trying to outdo eachother, and be darker or more hardcore than the others, to prove that they are truer to the genre or whatever, but it lacks any real substance. I think you see through the act when you're older. You can even see it happen in different bands as they age. Like Einst++rzende Neubauten went from this to this. When i was a teenager I used to think industrial noise shows were amazing because they were finding the beauty in chaos, or something, but now i find it insufferable. Can only tolerate it if there are Genesis P. Orridge lyrics on top of it. Can't say i was ever a huge death metal fan, and there's even less of it i can tolerate with each year, but i'll definitely be listening to particular industrial and goth bands that aged well for the rest of my days. I'd hate to hear you turned your back on the genres entirely, because you have a rare understanding of them.
Well, I didn't turn my back on the whole genre entirely, and our little group still visits WGT every year..but nowadays more out of nostalgia (and for the booze of course) than anything else. Not that I didn't listen to that music at all anymore..I just "broadened" my taste. Ten years ago I would never have listened to stuff like this- but it's awesome..really...listen to the whole song. Maybe when you grow older you just don't let self-obsessed subcultures dictate your taste any more.
edit: @ Surfins' : I love Joan Jett, but I prefer the songs that sound as if they came directly from the fifties like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwNFu5MGDu4. Feel Good Music :) Please don't feed me. |

Well played, Sir...well played...
I was with some friends at a festival here in Cologne about three years ago. We came for Feindflug and (of course) Fields of the Nephilim. But Eisbrecher were playing too, were even the main act, and the whole bloody area was drowning in fat and ugly twilight moms with Eisbrecher T-Shirts. It was a disgrace. Talking of shittty goth music, the old gang persuaded me to come to WGT in Leipzig again this May. Anyone of you guys coming too? Rumor has it that there will be beer and fun to be had... But you are from Sweden, no? Guess I will have to tell you the epic drama of Swedes on WGT. About 5 years ago, there was a bunch of about 20 Swedes who got so incredibly drunk within the first 2 hours of the festival already, that they were throwing away their clothes while stumbling around delirious and babbling in drunk-esperanto (the unified world language that anyone can speak and understand once his blood alcohol is over 3 per mille). There is a clinically insane guy (I guess he is suffering from genuine schizophrenia) who keeps coming to the festival regularly, considers himself a kind of black-metal bard and keeps giving terribly bad wannabe black metal impromptus on the camping site. This guy was so impressed by the invasion of naked Swedes, that he is still talking and still singing songs about it. Under these circumstances, I hope you can understand that I cannot vouch for any Swede I bring there, even if you promise me to keep your clothes on at all times. But the tickets are extremely cheap, somewhat below 100 Gé¼ for 5 days; I guess the expenses for the trip would be much higher if you come from Sweden. (They are even higher from me, and I just come from Bonn/Cologne) Just think of how bad an average post by me is, and then realize half of them are even worse |

I'd give it, mmmmm idk 7 or 7.5 out of 10? What's your score on it?
10/10, but mostly out of nostalgic reasons, because I have fond memories of this song and awesome parties, and a Spanish girl completely freaking out over the lyrics, she didn't know whether to laugh or be disgusted.

Oh my gosh- I just stumbled upon several of my old cassette tapes from the early nineties. Even found an older radio recorder that still has a cassette player. So many cool songs that I had completely forgotten:
Shock Therapy - Hate is just a four letter word
S.P.O.C.K. - Never trust a Klingon
Paradise Lost - As I die
Tool - Sober

Hmm..not convinced. I always felt like Minmatar would listen to old, dirty rock music like The Cramps. Amarr music would sound like this. Not sure about Gal and Caldari, since I find both races rather boring tbh. Sansha would probably listen to crazy stuff like Black Midii (yes, this piece has 3,14 million notes, might melt your soundcard...)

I've always pictured Amarr music sounding close to Dead Can Dance: EmmeleiaOr KikoOr AgapeAnd my favorite (this one I used it to set in the mood before battle): SaldekAnd a 3' remix: Saldek (extended)
While I concur that Dead Can Dance may fit the Amarr theme, the songs you linked were pretty bad examples in my opinion. Too multi cultural for Amarr. Far too inclusive and open minded. The older songs of DCD would be so much more fitting, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J8mvTWceO8 (wow, even the video makes me want to enslave my neighbors and commit several genocides for the glory of our God Empress...)
